Discovery and Prioritization of the Components of a Supplier Planning and Selection Model in a Sustainable Supply Chain: A Case Study of the Automotive Industry

This study aimed to identify, classify, and prioritize the components of a supplier planning and selection model in a sustainable supply chain, focusing on the automotive industry and Saipa Automotive Company. This developmental-applied study used an exploratory design. Initially, 35 potential factors affecting sustainable supplier selection were identified based on the literature and expert opinions. These factors were refined through three successive expert-evaluation rounds using a five-point Likert-scale questionnaire. Factors with mean scores greater than 3 were retained, and Kendall’s coefficient of concordance was used to assess agreement among experts. Ultimately, 25 factors were classified into five dimensions: economic, environmental, social, legal, and technical-organizational. For weighting and prioritizing the dimensions, a pairwise-comparison questionnaire was completed by 10 experts, and the data were analyzed using fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP). Judgment consistency was assessed using the AM and AG matrices. Kendall’s coefficients of concordance for the first, second, and third stages were 0.807, 0.822, and 0.849, respectively, and all were statistically significant at p<0.001. The consistency ratio was 0.0162 for the AM matrix and 0.0639 for the AG matrix, both below the acceptable threshold of 0.10. Fuzzy AHP results showed that the economic dimension ranked first with a weight of 0.272, followed by the technical-organizational dimension with 0.251, the legal dimension with 0.191, the social dimension with 0.147, and the environmental dimension with 0.140. Sustainable supplier selection in the automotive industry is a multidimensional decision problem. Although economic and technical-organizational considerations had the greatest relative importance, legal, social, and environmental dimensions should also be systematically incorporated into supplier planning, evaluation, and selection processes.
